Seven Anti-Work Songs

Boo.

(This post is a response to a link that appeared on the List Off Facebook page. It is also dedicated to my new supervisor, who is a dick.)

Since the dawn of time, man has been infuriated by bosses, whether it be kings, politicians, or heads of households. And since that time, man has written and sang songs of how these “superiors”, truly rub them the wrong way. However, I think it was mastered in the 20th century, especially because so many have been put out in the past couple of decades.

Most people hate their jobs. That’s a life lesson we can all rally behind in one of the greatest films of all time, 1999’s Office Space (for real, who was behind the idea of putting gangster rap in this very white bread and white people movie? Because it was a stroke of genius).  Still, I don’t recommend flipping out and going on a murderous rampage every time your ass of a boss makes you crazy. Instead, enjoy these seven tracks, which are all about sticking it to the man. Damn the man.

7. Big D & The Kids Table  – “Souped-Up Vinyl”

6. Reel Big Fish – “Another F.U. Song”

5. Belle & Sebastian – “Step Into My Office, Baby”

4. The Clash – “Career Opportunities”

3. The Replacements – “God Damn Job”

2. Canibus – “Shove This Jay-Oh-Bee (Feat. Biz Markie)”

1. Bob Dylan – “Maggie’s Farm”

Canibus – “Shove This Jay-Oh-Bee (Feat. Biz Markie)”
